Brass User Guide: Installing Brass

Installing Brass is very easy. Just download the setup package and run it. You'll be taken through the installation step by step. It will only take a few seconds and it's not complex at all.

Upgrading Brass

If you already have Brass installed and you're upgrading to a new version it's just as easy. Download and run the setup package as normal. The Brass installer will pick up the options you used for the previous installation and use them again. Remember to exit Brass before starting the installer - you'll be warned if Brass is still running when you try to upgrade.

All the Brass program files will be updated automatically. When a configuration file is found (for example, the NewsGrinder "availablefeeds.txt" that stores all the RSS feeds you have created), you will be asked whether you want to overwrite it. Answer "No" and your existing feeds will be left alone. Answer "Yes", and your existing feeds will be reset back to the defaults.

The installer also makes a backup of any configuration files it thinks you might want. For example, when Mime and NewsGrinder are updated a copy is made of all your .NFO files (for your Mime custom actions) and your availablefeeds.txt (for your NewsGrinder RSS feeds). These backups are stored in <Brass Install Folder>\Plugins\<Plugin Name>\Backup. If you want to restore the backups, just copy them into the plugins folder.
