Brass Plugins: All About Beta Versions

Sometimes complex plugins can take a little while to develop. A lot of that time is based on the old 80/20 rule - 20% of the tasks take 80% of the effort. This is really true when it comes to debugging!

We don't like to release plugins before we're happy they're stable and working properly. This can mean we have a perfectly working plugin, but it hasn't gone through final detailed testing yet. Alternatively some plugins take a long while to develop, but the user community want to see the "bleeding edge" versions before they are fully complete. Those plugins are called Beta versions.

If you like to live on the edge and you're a bit more confident with your PC (or you're just really impatient and can't wait!), you might want to try these beta versions for yourself. Most of them are fully functional and will work perfectly on your system. We can't guarantee that any configuration you make with a beta version won't be removed when the "final" version is released, but we try our best to keep everything compatible.

However, as with all beta software, there is a chance that the plugin could malfunction and not work properly. So it's always a good idea to back up your plugins before installing a beta version (simply make a copy of the <Brass Install Folder>\plugins folder). If you're a novice PC user or aren't comfortable with trying out software that might have unintended side effects, you should think carefully before installing a beta too.

That said, go ahead and download the beta versions. They all come with installers (and the final version installers will overwrite the beta versions, so you don't have to worry about future upgrades). If you do find a bug we'd really appreciate it if you let us know; the same goes for any suggestions you have.

Enjoy!
