The Gesture Context Menu
Earlier you learned how to add a new gesture to
an existing action, provide a parameter (if required) and then edit
the gesture later on. With the gesture context menu, you can access
more detailed configuration settings for every gesture and its action.
To access the gesture context menu, right click
an item in the "Configured Gestures" tree. Depending what
type of item you click, a different menu will appear. Clicking a
top "application" level item produces this menu:

The options are as follows:
"Edit Item in-place"
(Also, select an item and press F2) |
This option allows you to edit the text displayed
in the "Configured Gestures" tree. It doesn't affect
how any of your configuration works, it simply lets you use
more friendly names for the tree items. For example, if you
had an application entry named "MSOffice-Word-XP-Only"
by default, you can rename it to "MS Word" by using
this option. It's just a way to let you make your configuration
a bit clearer. |
| |
|
"Delete this item and all
children "
(Also, select an item and press Delete) |
Selecting this option deletes all the configuration
associated with the item - all the actions and gestures below
it in the tree. It's the same as clicking an item then clicking
the "Remove Selected" button. |
Clicking a second level "action" item produces this menu:

The options are as follows:
| "Edit Item in-place" |
Exactly the same as before, this option allows
you to edit the text displayed in the "Configured Gestures"
tree. It doesn't affect any configuration. |
| |
|
| "Edit the parameters for this
action" |
This option only appears if the selected action
allows a parameter to be provided. If it does, you can edit
the parameter for this action here. As you should know from
the Configuring
Mime section, all gestures attached to an action
use the same parameter. |
| |
|
| "Delete this item and all
children " |
Exactly the same as before, selecting this option
deletes all the configuration associated with the item. |
Finally clicking a third level "gesture" item produces
this menu:

The options are as follows:
| "Edit Item in-place" |
This is a little different
to editing actions or applications in place. When editing
a gesture in place, you can alter and add to the segments
of a gesture without having to draw it. For example, in the
above screenshot the gesture for "Internet Explorer"
- "Find" is "Right, Down, Right". If you
were to edit this gesture in place and change the text to
"RDRL" (adding the L), the gesture would become
"Right, Down, Right, Left". The gesture representation
at the bottom of the configuration screen will be updated
to reflect the new gesture.
This is a really quick way to edit gestures if you're comfortable
with the way it works. |
| |
|
| "Edit this gesture visually"
|
This option is the same as clicking the "Edit
Gesture" button. The visual gesture editor appears, and
you can draw a new gesture. |
| |
|
| "Edit the parameters for parent
action" |
Parameters are linked to actions rather than
gestures, which is why you can have multiple gestures performing
the same action. Selecting this option allows you to edit
the parameters for the parent action of this gesture. Making
any change to the parameters obviously affects all
gestures attached to the action. |
| |
|
| "Delete this gesture" |
Selecting this option deletes the currently
selected gesture. |
The Context Menu for Custom Actions
We haven't talked about custom actions yet - that's in the next
section. However when you right click on a custom action, you get
the following menu:

As you can see, there is an extra option - "Edit the criteria
for this action". This option allows you to edit the criteria
for the selected action, which changes what application the action
affects. Custom actions and criteria are discussed in the next section.
